The West of Horsham Design Principles and Character Areas Supplementary Planning Document was adopted on 17 April 2009.
The Land West of Horsham Design Principles and Character Areas SPD was produced to amplify and provide more detail on the Land West of Horsham Masterplan SPD in relation to the design and layout of the future development at the site.
The aim of the SPD is to provide guidance on design matters for developers and others preparing planning applications and for those considering applications at the Land West of Horsham Strategic Allocation of Land. It has been developed alongside the West of Horsham Masterplan SPD to ensure that the future development of this site is of high quality and appropriate to its context.
Whilst the Masterplan SPD provides the overall vision and planning requirements for the site, the Design Principles SPD provides additional detail in relation to the key design and layout principles that developers will be expected to take into account in preparing their schemes. The Design Principles SPD sets out a series of design principles that will apply to the development as a whole and divides the site into six new character areas. Area specific design guidance is provided for each character area which provides an opportunity to create an attractive, legible layout where it is possible to move between different parts of the site and experience places which have an identity and provide a sense of place.
